The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday promised to appoint a woman as the Secretary to the State Government if elected in the March 2 governorship election.
Sanwo-Olu spoke in Lagos during an interactive session with women from across all sections of the polity.
The event tagged, ‘Enabling, Empowering and Promoting Women: Our Impact,’ was organised by the woman leader of the state APC, Joke Okoya-Thomas.
The APC candidate said he had gained from the experiences of women such as Senator Oluremi Tinubu and two former deputy governors of the state, Sarah Sosan and Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, among others.
He said, “The Secretary to the State Government should be a woman, even without asking our political leaders. We would also ensure that one of the critical ministries, such as finance, is also given to a woman. Females will play prominent roles in our cabinet by God’s grace because they are trustworthy.”
He promised to promote laws that will ensure the maximum protection of women.
Sanwo-Olu also promised to establish a film village in Lagos to cater for the interest of film actors and producers, adding that any person accessing the village must be a practitioner.
The organiser of the event, Okoya-Thomas, in her remarks noted that in a report attributed to Global Gender Gap Index Data of the World Economic Forum, Nigeria had less than one per cent of women participating in politics and decision-making.
