Police arrest officer who allegedly shot couple’s car in Lagos

here was a commotion on Sunday, July 26, when a protector allegedly shot at a car occupied by someone and his family, allegedly over refusal to pay a bribe.

The incident reportedly happened around Japaul house in Ikeja.

According to Ayodele Oyewole who shared the video, the wife fainted after the lawman shot at their car, shattering the rear windshield.

The Lagos state police command has arrested the lawman who allegedly fired a gunshot at a moving vehicle of a pair with their children inside at the city center district, Dr Nurudeen Olowopopo Way, before of Japaul House, Ikeja, Lagos state on Sunday, July 26.

The video went viral and plenty of Nigerians condemned the action of the policeman and demanded his arrest

Twitter user @ewejeoyewole, shared the video online and said the wife of the one that was riding the car, fainted shortly after the officer fired the gunshot that shattered the glass of their car. The officer wearing a Mobile Police outfit was seen brandishing an AK 47 gun.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the arrest of the officer, said an investigation has commenced into the incident. He said the police are already in point of fact with the affected family and thus the destroyed vehicle has been repaired by the police.

According to Bala, the erring officer was on an escort duty ”going somewhere.”

“I am tuned in to it incident. The policeman is in custody which we’ve got commenced an investigation into the circumstances that led to that incident. Nobody was injured, nobody was killed” Elkana told ICIR
